Even after bariatric surgery, patients can still struggle with their body image and what is really important is to develop a positive body image and be comfortable in your own skin.
This is because there is far more to you than how you look, and this is just the superficial! Your health, what you do, how you affect your family, other people and society are the more important things.
Obesity is being recognised by the College of GPs as a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing management. Stigmatisation regarding obesity needs to be diminished. Governments need to start recognising obesity as a true, medical problem and fund effective treatments such as bariatric surgery.
