An Allurion gastric balloon is a non-surgical weight loss solution. It is a small weight-loss device created from a thin polyurethane membrane that is folded into a small, vegan-based capsule. The capsule is designed to be swallowed to sit in the stomach. Once the placement is confirmed by x-ray, it can be filled with fluid. This creates a feeling of fullness which helps limit the patient’s portions and avoid snacking.
After approximately 4 months, the fluid is released and the membrane passes safely through the bowel. This process is also accompanied by the holistic Allurion Program, which is designed to support patients with a comprehensive diet and exercise plan to ensure long-term success.
We offer this swallowable gastric balloon in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and all over the state as a fantastic option for patients who don’t want (or are unable to receive) surgery, endoscopy, or anaesthesia.
It is also ideal for patients who are overweight or obese and have not had success with traditional weight loss methods or who may have trouble sticking with a consistent diet and exercise program.
The Allurion Balloon is placed in the stomach under the supervision of our team in a 20-minute consultation with one of our team members. You will be given a capsule to swallow which will be connected to a thin catheter.
Proper placement of the balloon will be confirmed with a quick x-ray, and we will then proceed to fill the balloon with water using a catheter. Once full, the catheter is removed and we will perform another quick x-ray to confirm that the balloon is fully inflated and sitting correctly in the stomach. After that, the process is complete.
Patients will then automatically be set up on the Allurion Program, which includes an app, a fitness tracker to monitor activity and digital smart scales. You will also have monthly check-in sessions with our team, who will be able to monitor your progress remotely with the app.
